I am a classically trained painter with a background in graphic design. My current work explores the traditional and contemporary still life.

 

Historically, an important part of still life was to convey ideas through symbolism. In today’s society and culture, we have very different symbols to that which were traditionally used. I am fascinated by the symbolism we might find in every day contemporary objects, and the new language we can create through playing with composition

 

My goal is to not over-intellectualise my painting process, but rather to aim for a more visceral response. I try to capture the feel and material of the object, to invoke a sense of curiosity, to hint at an imaginary scene and raise questions about the role and nature of objects.
